We are all guilty of this sometimes and it happens because it is a part of life. We are taught to make an attempt to do our best – but what if sometimes that is hard for you to do? Then what do you do? It is okay for you to take a break but it is not okay when you are compromising who you are and what you have set out to do. I know it is easier said than done – but try to make your own ‘sometimes’ list and you will see how much more you have to give to this world, but more importantly, to yourself.

Sometimes I feel like I’m on top of the world.
Nothing is impossible.

Sometimes it feels like everything is out to get me.
Nothing goes right.

Sometimes I hurt the ones I love.
Only to regret it later.

Sometimes I’ll help people wanting nothing in return.
Often when I have an abundance of happiness.

Not always.

Other times I am greedy.

Other times I feel destructive.

Sometimes I feel like nobody understands me.

Would dying today be different from any other day?

Sometimes I try to find the meaning of life.
So far I don’t have an answer.

Sometimes I feel like I am a bad person.
I know this is not true.

Sometimes I wish I would have done things differently.
If I did I would not be who I am today.

Sometimes it makes me sad that I lost something.
When I think about it, I am happy I had it in the first place.

Sometimes I fail.
It is a lesson to make me succeed.

Mostly it is not the right move.

Sometimes I brighten someone’s day.
It’s a good feeling.

Happy Reflecting!

Hope is what keeps us alive and together. It is unique in its own way. It also keeps us afloat amongst the many everyday challenges in our lives. Whether they are small or large issues that take time – but you get there. I know that if I have enough hope that I will have the ability to withstand the trials that may come my way. With that – I wanted to leave you with something that will give you food for thought:

2009 was an intense year filled with once in a lifetime milestones in each of our lives. It was also filled with many events that have changed many of our lives – some for the better others are not so fortunate. The one message that I hope we all carry with us is one of change and paying it forward. I hope that I can help others by serving as a voice for those who do not have one.

We all have goals that we set for ourselves but what about goals to help others? This year if you are not one to stick to your resolutions than make a list of goals that you want for yourself. They can be either short-term or long-term goals, but something that is realistic and motivating.

But, on this particular holiday I will also be remembering those who lost their lives on the tragic terrorist attacks in the heart of Mumbai, India. It has been one year and as much as the bustling city of Mumbai has moved forward the scars still remain within the residents of that beautiful country. This affected tragedy affected the world as we watched in horror of so many lives that are still being affected today. My prayers and thoughts go out to the victims and residents of India during this Thanksgiving season. I have been to this city numerous times and have been welcomed with open arms by the residents of Mumbai. Their hospitality and grace will never be forgotten.

I learned after many bumps in the road and of course, the many hard lessons in life. It is a lesson that taught me to prioritize my life so that I place myself first. This happened over time as a result of self-realization and some tough love.

It is easier to be there for others at times and deflect so that you don’t place focus on yourself. I would not be surprised if you felt as though your life was revolving in a cycle, awaiting change. Why do we wait to help ourselves when it is so that much easier to help others? It is not wrong to help others, but you don’t want to be known as the push-over type either. Trust me – I have been there and done that.

As much as I would love to go into more detail – that will come later. As all good things, they are worth the wait. My story is always evolving and I learn so much more about myself on a daily basis. But in the meantime – here are my tips to help you take that ‘leap forward’:

Make a Life List
What I mean by a ‘life list’ is the 100 things that you want to accomplish in a lifetime. It can be something very basic as reading War & Peace to learning a foreign language. Don’t over think it just write or type what comes to mind. Post it up on your wall or inside your cabinet where you can see it everyday. I started this a while back myself, and I add to it as I accomplish a few of my ‘life list’ goals. My inspiration came from an aspring and talented woman who lost her life to the 9/11 tragedy. Her parents found her list and have since then inspired others to do the same. She is an example of someone we can all learn from – cherish your life and all that you can do in this lifetime.

Seek Out Help
We are all guilty of this – you know not asking for help even though we need it. Ok, well maybe not all of us. I am that person in the room who just did ever work up the nerve to ask for help. I know it is such a simple concept. Of course, by learning the hard way I slowly learned to seek out help from those that I trust and that will guide me when I seek their advice.

Put Me First
As strange as it may sound have you ever really put yourself first? At one point or another you have put everyone else before yourself. So that means if your friends are in need you will take on their woes as well. It is not bad to be there for everyone – it’s a great quality to have as an individual. I love being there for my family and close friends – but I also learned that I too needed to make time for myself. Find activities or a hobby that you enjoy and build your life so that you find balance. It takes time of course.

I hope that you find these methods simple and worth your time. I cannot complain because it has really helped me in more ways than I could have ever imagined.

This song came out a few years ago, but I still have it ready to go on my Ipod & ITunes. It is by Natasha Bedingfield “Pocketful of Sunshine”, this song in particular takes me to a place where I let my hair free and am basking in the ocean air.

I find comfort in the words and the notes that really help me to put things into perspective. On some days, it gets my creativity grooving, and others it helps me to really just brighten my spirits. This is just one of many songs but this is worth mentioning.

You might also have that one song that brings a smile upon your face. So why not use that comfort and channel that towards yourself. It is surprising how little we must do to help ourselves, but yet why do we take so long to realize it?
